4 1/2 Days Samburu Great Rift Valley Lakes Nairobi safari

Departs Mondays
A short safari to the north via the high shoulder of Mt. Kenya to Samburu Game Reserve home to the northern specialist species as well Kamunyak the Miracle Lioness that adopted the baby Oryx; then the world famous Bird Sanctuaries of the Great Rift Valley Lakes of Baringo, Bogoria, Nakuru and back to Nairobi.

Day1: Nairobi/Samburu:
We depart Nairobi in the morning and drive north via the shoulder of Mt Kenya to Samburu Game Reserve. Samburu Game Reserve is a semi-arid area with open savanna grassland along the Uaso Nyiro River which supports plenty of wildlife. Samburu Game reserve is reach in wildlife and is famous for the rare northern specialist species such as the Grevy’s Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk and the Beisa Oryx. It abounds with elephants -a minimum of 900 elephants. Lions, Leopards and Cheetah are common and an important attraction to the reserve. Wild dog sightings are also common here, an extra attraction to this park. There are over 450 bird species including a number of riverine forest species such as Lesser Kestrel and the Taita Falcon besides those of global conservation concern that include African Darter, Great Egret, White-headed Vulture, Martial Eagle and the Yellow-billed Ox-pecker. Day2: Samburu:
The day is spent game viewing in the Samburu game park with morning and afternoon gamedrives. In between the gamedrives we relax by the poolside to escape the heat.

Day3: Samburu/Baringo:
Leave Samburu early morning and make a scenic drive to the west across the Lerochi Plateau, (lunch enroute) and after descend to the floor of the Great Rift Valley, reaching at Lake Baringo in the afternoon. Lake Baringo is a fresh water lake with an abundance of birdlife as well as hippos and crocodiles. Lake Baringo is a world famous bird-watching centre. Have a boat ride in Lake Baringo weather permitting.

Day4: Baringo/Lake Nakuru:
Early morning we drive south via Lake Bogoria (30km) which is a shallow soda lake with a picturesque scenic scenery inhabited by many flamingos and other species of birds- a Ramsar site. The highlight, however, is the boiling hot springs and geysers. After lunch we drive to Lake Nakuru in the south - another shallow soda lake which has been described as "an ornithologist’s paradise and one of the world’s most magnificent sights". At Lake Nakuru up to two million flamingoes besides tens of thousands of other birds have been seen. Lake Nakuru is also a rhino sanctuary with both black and white rhinos. Lake Nakuru also harbors lions, warthogs, waterbucks, buffaloes, hippo and many other animals. Dinner and overnight in a campsite outside town

Day5: Nakuru/Nairobi:
After breakfast, we proceed to Nairobi arriving late afternoon and drop off. END OF SAFARI

    Money for personal spending and tipping
