Accommodation: Kampala Serena Hotel

This morning, you’ll transfer to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, a two-hour drive from Kampala on the way to Murchison Falls National Park. While tracking rhinos, you can also visit the information center and craft shop, and keep an eye out for wildlife like bushbucks, leopards, Uganda kobs, oribis, crocodiles, hippos, and the rare shoebill stork in the Lugogo Swamps. In the afternoon, we’ll visit the “top of the falls,” where the Nile River dramatically squeezes through a narrow 7-meter gap at Murchison Falls, creating one of the most powerful and awe-inspiring natural water flows on earth.

Accommodation: Fort Murchison

After an early breakfast, embark on a game drive where you can expect to see elephants, Cape buffalo, Rothschild’s giraffes, Uganda kobs, hartebeest, and waterbuck. You might also spot oribi, bushbuck, Bohor reedbuck, bush duiker, warthog, and bushpig, with large carnivores such as lions, leopards, and spotted hyenas possibly making an appearance. After lunch, enjoy a boat safari upstream on the calm Victoria Nile. Along the 17 km journey, marvel at hippos, crocodiles, and possibly elephants, waterbuck, and Uganda kobs. This area is also rich in birdlife, including species like the Goliath heron, Egyptian goose, pelican, bee-eater, kingfisher, hornbill, cormorant, and the rare shoebill stork. The boat will stop just meters away from the powerful, frothing base of the falls, offering a close-up view of this natural spectacle.

Accommodation: Fort Murchison

All day drive south via Hoima to Fort Portal through verdant countryside and past traditional homesteads
and farms. Fort-Portal rests in the shadow of the fabled Mountains of the Moon.

Accommodation: Primate Lodge

Spend the entire day searching for chimpanzees and 10 other primate species, including L’Hoest’s monkeys, red colobus, blue monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and gray-cheeked mangabeys. Your guide will offer detailed insights, not only about the primates but also about the diverse forest fauna and flora, ensuring your walk is both informative and enjoyable. This experience is also excellent for birdwatching and observing primates up close.

Accommodation: Primate Lodge

Start your morning with a visit to Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, where you’ll search for smaller mammals and primates, including the rare red colobus monkey and the elusive sitatunga. The guided 4.5 km circular trail through the swamp is one of the best birding trails in East Africa and offers a great chance to spot up to six different primate species in just a few hours. Afterward, proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park, following the mystical Ruwenzori Mountain range for much of the journey. Along the way, a game drive may reward you with sightings of lions, elephants, leopards, buffalo, hyenas, and various antelope species.

Accommodation: Queen Elizabeth Bush Lodge

Today, you’ll embark on two game drives in Queen Elizabeth National Park, a diverse ecosystem of grassy plains, tropical forests, rivers, swamps, lakes, and volcanic craters that support an incredible abundance of wildlife. With the majestic Rwenzori Mountains as a backdrop, these drives offer excellent opportunities to spot lions, leopards, giant forest hogs, Cape buffalo, elephants, defassa waterbuck, Uganda kobs, topi, and bushbucks. These game drives, combined with a boat trip, provide a memorable way to experience Uganda’s rich wildlife.

In the afternoon, enjoy a unique 2-hour boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel and into Lake Edward. This journey takes you through one of the highest concentrations of hippos, with many other animals often seen drinking at the water’s edge. The cruise offers an excellent platform for photography, bird watching, and game viewing, with over 550 bird species adding vibrant color to the experience.

Accommodation: Queen Elizabeth Bush Lodge

Drive through the “Switzerland of Africa” area known as the Kigezi Highlands with its terraced hillside and
winding roads to Bwindi.

Accommodation: Buhoma Lodge

Begin your day with an early morning entry into the Gorilla Sanctuary, a spectacular rainforest known for its dramatic, steeply forested landscape. Despite its dense vegetation, the forest is crisscrossed by numerous animal trails, making it accessible to tourists. Here, you’ll encounter a variety of mammals, including the endangered mountain gorilla, the rare golden monkey, buffalo, elephants, black-fronted duiker, bushbuck, leopards, and more. The park is most famous for its fascinating gorillas. The time spent tracking them varies depending on their movements, but the experience of observing these magnificent primates is a rare, moving, and thrilling adventure. Gorillas are shy and peaceful creatures, and watching and photographing them as they interact is an unforgettable experience.

Accommodation: Buhoma Lodge

After an early breakfast, drive to Lake Mburo National Park, where you’ll enjoy a boat ride on Lake Mburo, bringing you up close to crocodiles and hippos. Birdwatchers will delight in the more than 250 bird species found in the park, including the Papyrus Gonolek, Brown-faced Lapwing, Carruther’s Cisticola, the extraordinary White-winged Warbler, and the Bare-Faced Go-Away bird. In the evening, take a game drive along the Lakeshore track. The “Kigambara Loop” offers interesting guided lakeside walks, where you can encounter herds of zebra, Cape buffalo, eland, and easily approach oribi and topi.

Accommodation: Mihingo Safari Lodge

After breakfast, set out on a game drive or a safari walk, escorted by an armed ranger. The Kopjes in the area are fascinating, often hiding klipspringers and topis. It’s also interesting to see zebras grazing peacefully alongside the long-horned Ankole cattle due to local cattle herding practices. Return for a leisurely lunch, enjoying the scenic views of the park’s lakes.

In the afternoon, drive back to Entebbe via Kampala, with a stop at the Mpigi Royal Drum Makers to witness the traditional crafting of ceremonial drums, a skill passed down through generations. You’ll also have the opportunity to stop at the equator for photographs. Expect to arrive in Entebbe in the early evening.
