5 Days Kenya Trekking Safari

Overview

Walking safaris, scenic landscapes, excellent game viewing, vibrant colors, and big smiles – this 5-day trekking itinerary has it all. Kenya has long been the perfect introduction to Africa so you can look forward to some of the best experiences this gigantic continent has to offer. Begin your journey from the bustling city of Nairobi where you get to interact with Kenyan culture and her hospitable people.

For the trekking safari proper, you will be exploring the world-famous Masai Mara, home to one of the largest concentrations of diverse wildlife and bird species on the planet. You also get to visit the iconic Hell’s Gate National Park, which was actually one of the many inspirations behind the recently released Disney’s The Lion King. You may not see Simba or Timon here, but you will definitely get the feel for the “circle of life.”

AT THE END OF EACH DAY, RETIRE TO YOUR TENTED BUSH CAMP AND ENJOY THE COOL AFRICAN BREEZE AS YOU DINE AND SLEEP UNDER THE STARS. MAKE SURE TO BRING ALONG YOUR CAMERA BECAUSE YOU CAN BE SURE THERE WILL BE LOTS TO CAPTURE!

Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi - Masai Mara

You will be picked up from your Nairobi hotel early morning by our well experienced Safari Guide/ Driver with a custom made safari tour van. After a short briefing, you start your journey to Naibosho Conservancy in Masai Mara. You will arrive at Wilderness Camp in time for lunch followed by relaxation as you take in the sights and sounds of the savannah. At about 3:00 pm begin your adventure as you follow the footsteps of the Dorobo to the first carefully selected campsite. Learn about the nomadic lifestyle of the Dorobo and become part of the wilderness as you explore the savannah and come close to nature. Arrive at the campsite and find a roaring fire and fine cuisine prepared by our Masai chefs.

After dinner, sit by the campfire as you relax under the African night sky and let the sounds of the savannah soothe you.

Rise early for an African tea/coffee before embarking on a Full Day Walking Safari. Experience the treasures of nature as you walk beside the Maasai. During your walk, learn about the local culture, the animals, and the birdlife of the savannah. Track the footprints of wildlife and identify birds of the savannah by their colors and sounds. After a few hours walk, sit down to a bush breakfast served under clear blue African skies before resuming your walk. When the sun becomes very hot, our guide will identify a suitable acacia tree where you will be able to sit under the shade and enjoy lunch with a panoramic view of the majestic plains. As the temperature begins to cool, continue your walk to the next carefully selected mobile campsite where your dome tent and a warm fire await. Settle down to a warm meal and relax by the campfire in true wilderness.

Awake at dawn to marvel at the incredible sunrise and get started on your day with a hearty breakfast before your walk to Wilderness Camp. As you walk through the award-winning Mara Naboisho Conservancy, learn about the wildlife population in the region, which includes an abundance of lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffaloes, and elephants. You will also learn about the small five of the savannah and their big role in the Mara ecosystem. Walking and mobile camping is an intimate immersion into the sights and sounds of nature. As you explore and unravel the hidden secrets of the savannah, you come close to the very essence of the African wilderness. Arrive at Wilderness Camp to freshen up, relax, and enjoy lunch prepared by our well-trained Masai chefs. Relax in your tent as you take in the sights and sounds of the incomparable Saddle Valley. At around 4:00 pm, meet your Masai guide for an afternoon game drive. Return to camp for dinner followed by relaxation by the campfire, as you listen to the Masai tell tales from their culture.

After enjoying your breakfast, you will leave the Masai Mara and head towards Hells Gate National Park with lunch in a designated restaurant along the way. At the entrance of Hell’s Gate, you will join a local guide who will take you on a cycling tour to see the spectacular scenery of the area, including towering cliffs, water-gouged gorges, stark rock towers, scrub clad volcanoes and belching plumes of geothermal steam, making it one of the most atmospheric parks in Africa. You can also do rock climbing and see diverse wildlife, including buffaloes, zebras, antelopes, giraffes and many more. In the late afternoon, you will exit Hell’s Gate and rejoin your driver-guide for dinner and overnight at Fisherman’s Camp.

After breakfast, drive down to Lake Naivasha, the highest of the Rift Valley lakes. En-route you will have an opportunity to visit one of the local villages to interact with the locals as well as enjoy the birdlife in Naivasha with picnic lunches. Late afternoon depart for Nairobi with dinner at one of the famous restaurants in the city and then transfer to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your outbound flight.
