This safari is only allowed for guests who foster elephants at the release stations in Tsavo and the Daphne Sheldrick elephant orphanage.

Itinerary

    JKIA/Nairobi
    Pick up upon arrival at JKIA and we transfer you to your Nairobi hotel. Overnight at Tamarind Tree hotel. (BB)

    Full Day Nairobi- David Sheldrick
    After breakfast we depart at 1030am for the famous David Sheldrick elephant orphanage, which operates from 11am-12noon where rescued orphaned baby elephants and rhinos are rehabilitated before reintroduction into the wild. This is a great opportunity to take pictures with your foster elephants and other new comers. Afterwards we then transfer you back to your hotel for light lunch and relax. Late in the afternoon at 430pm we take you back to the Elephant Orphanage for a foster parent visit, specifically intended for sponsors only. The public is not allowed at this time. This exclusive visit provides a wonderful opportunity for sponsors to learn more about the project they support and ask the caretakers in-depth questions about the Elephants. You will have a chance to spend more quality time with the little orphans and see the Stalls where they live & sleep. Afterwards we transfer you to Carnivore Restaurant for dinner and overnight at Tamarind Tree Hotel (HB)

    Nairobi/ Tsavo East- Ithumba Hill After breakfast, we depart at 0700am with your driver & private chef to Itumba hill camp in the northern part of Tsavo East. We will try to visit the Elephants frequently and increase our presence at the release station. We will have a meeting with the Keepers and visit the Elephants in the late afternoon at 1700hrs. This Camp is a specifically self- catering luxurious tented camp, with a swimming pool, which offers comfort and breath-taking panoramic views. Our Chef will take care of you with scrumptious meals, freshly prepared throughout your stay.

    Tsavo East- Ithumba Hills Two full days spent here with daily visits to the stockades. Most popular is the 11.00 am mud bath visit and again the 17.00 (5 pm) visit where you can interact actively with your foster elephant that will eventually be released and integrated into the Wild. A number of spectacular and breath-taking wildlife sightings await you during the Safari. Overnight at Ithumba Hill Camp (BLD)

    Tsavo East National Park After an early morning breakfast, we explore deep into Tsavo East to arrive your hotel in time for Lunch. We will spend the afternoon discovering the Park with extended game drive and visit the forth release station of the Orphaned Elephants. Overnight at Ashnil Aruba Lodge (BLD)

    Tsavo East National Park Day spent visiting the Elephants. Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives. If time allows, visit the famous Lugard Falls on the Galana River where you may leave the vehicle for a while and take a walk to the rapids. You will enjoy your Lunch in form of Picnic along the beautiful Galana River. Overnight at Ashnil Aruba Lodge (BLD)

    Tsavo East/ Kibwezi Forest Reserve After breakfast, we depart for Kibwezi Forest, which is a conservation area where another release station for the Elephants has been set. You will spend the rest of the day in Umani Springs, a beautiful self-catering house managed and run by the Sheldricks. “Umani Springs is based in the luscious surrounds of an ancient 18,000 acre groundwater forest which now forms part of the Chyulu Hills National Park, the Kibwezi Forest provides a habitat for a number of species including elephants, leopards, hyenas, buffaloes and bushbucks, Serval cats, civets, mongooses and duikers”. A visit to the new Stockades is planned for in the afternoon. Our chef will prepare lovely, fresh meals for you. Overnight at Umani Springs (BLD)

    Kibwezi Forest & Chyulu Hills National Park Scrumptious breakfast then depart with picnic lunches to the famous Chyulu Hills National Park where you will spend the rest of the afternoon. Chyulu is a beautiful Park, which boasts of magnificent scenery. This is a truly magical area of ragged craters, rolling grassland, exotic aromatic plants and cedar forests not forgetting the diverse wildlife. We will end the day’s activities with one visit to the Stockades before returning to Umani Spring for overnight. Overnight at Umani Springs (BLD)

    Kibwezi/Nairobi JKIA After breakfast, we have a morning game drive then we transfer you to Nairobi JKIA in time for your evening/night International homebound flight (B) END OF SAFARI

What you need to bring on safari

  • Money for personal spending and tipping
  • A pair of long trousers and jersey for the cool mornings and evenings in addition to plenty of light clothes for hot days (do not forget a hat), swim suit, comfortable shoes/sandals
  • Water bottle
  • Torch, sunglasses, suntan lotion, insect repellent/spray
  • Camera, memory cards, binoculars, maps, guide-books
  • Personal toiletries eg toothbrush/paste etc
  • All personal travel insurance

NB: Ban on plastic water bottles in Kenya’s National Parks, Game Reserves & Conservancies as from 1 July 2020 hence visitors are required to carry their own water bottles as a measure to protect the environment.
