Description

The National game parks of Northern Tanzania are amongst the best in the world and offer very exciting game viewing. Ngorongoro Crater is famous for its wild hunting dogs and a variety of other game. Lake Manyara lions are known to reside in the branches of trees where they can both relax and watch for prey while Serengeti is where the great wildebeest migration to Masai Mara commences every year around May and June. Olduvai Gorge is a world renowned pre-historic archaeological site

Itinerary

  • 1

    Kilimanjaro international airport/ Arusha
Arrive JRO and we transfer you to your hotel in Arusha. Overnight at your lodge.

  • 2

    Arusha/Lake Manyara
After breakfast we depart at 8am for lake manyara national park to reach your lodge in time for lunch followed by afternoon game drive. Lake Manyara provides the perfect introduction to Tanzania’s birdlife. More than 400 species have been recorded, and even a first-time visitor to Africa might reasonably expect to observe 100 of these in one day. Highlights include thousands of pink-hued flamingos on their perpetual migration, as well as other large water birds such as pelicans, cormorants and storks. The park is home to Lion, Hippo, Elephant, Zebra, Buffalo, Giraffe, Baboon, Blue and Vervet monkey, Warthog and more…About 350 species of birds have been recorded. This small park contains also five distinct vegetation zones thus supporting a large variety of birds and animals. The Manyara National park is also famous for its large flocks of flamingos and tree climbing lions. In this park canoeing has recently been added to the tourist activities in this park at extra cost. This is a great way to see the park from a new perspective. Overnight at your lodge (DBL)

  • 3

    Manyara/Serengeti
After breakfast we proceed to Serengeti national park game drive enroute to reach your lodge in time for lunch. Serengeti National Park (area 14763 sq km) boarders Masai Mara in Kenya to the north and largely shares the same eco system. Serengeti National Park is the largest and also most popular park in Tanzania. Overnight at your lodge. (DBL)

  • 4

    Serengeti
Day spent in Serengeti to explore the national park with both morning and afternoon game drive. Remember this is the migration safari, hence your game drive will depend on the movement of the migrants and you may opt for a full day gamedrive armed with picnic lunch as your guide knows very well how to locate the herds. Overnight at your lodge (DBL)

  • 5

    Serengeti/Ngorongoro via Olduvai Gorge
Wake up at 0600hours for early morning game drive in Serengeti. At 0900 hours back to the Lodge for breakfast. Here in the Serengeti region you can often watch wildebeest and zebras next to lions and other big cats such as leopards and cheetahs. We then check out armed with picnic lunch and drive game viewing enroute to Ngorongoro Crater Rim. Lunch is taken at a picnic spot before a slow drive to the Ngorongoro Crater. On the way you will pass the Olduvai Gorge where the English pair, Louis and Mary Leak pioneered excavation work in the sixties. Some of the earliest archaeological deposits of human evolution were found here and a small museum (visit optional) documents these discoveries. Overnight at your lodge (DBL)

  • 6

    Ngorongoro/ Arusha
Wake up early morning for breakfast then at 07.30hours armed with picnic lunch descend into the Crater floor (19.2 km of diameter, 610m deep, 304 sq km) for gamedrive. All the Big five – the Rhino, Lion, Leopard, Buffalo and Elephant live in this wonderful caldera. Others are Zebra, Hippo, Wildebeest, Hyena and more. Birds include flamingos on the Soda Lake, Geese, Storks, Vultures and more. Break for lunch at Ngoitoktok spring Picnic site; it will be an unforgettable experience! Ngorongoro Crater is often called 'Africa's Eden', the '8th Natural Wonder of the World'. A massive extinct volcano, its towering tree lined walls drop thousands of feet to a "Noah's Ark" of animals on the verdant floor below. This breathtaking oasis provides a haven for both predator and prey to live among grasslands, fresh springs and a large soda lake. Large herds of zebra, buffalo, antelope and wildebeest graze nearby while sleeping lions laze in the sun. At dawn, the endangered black rhino retreats to the thick cover of the crater forests after grazing on dew-laden grass in the morning mist. Nowhere else can such diversity in wildlife be experienced in such a short period of time! After lunch depart for Arusha. Overnight at your hotel (BB)

  • 7

    Arusha National Park
